Iranian President Calls for High Turnout in Revolution Anniversary Rallies

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted the important role of upcoming rallies marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in foiling enemy plots against the Islamic Republic and called on the people to massively participate in the rallies.

Every year on the anniversary of the revolution’s victory, the Iranian people loudly voice their support for the late Imam Khomeini, the Leader, the Establishment and the causes of their revolution by pouring into streets in their millions, Rouhani said, addressing a cabinet session in Tehran on Wednesday.

The high turnout of people in the rallies will disappoint the enemies and ill-wishers of the Iranian nation, the president said.

It will also indicate that the relationship between the people and the government is cordial and deep-rooted, he added.

The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 39 years ago, on February 11, 1979, ending the 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.

The revolution, led by the late Imam Khomeini, established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.

Every year Iranians mark the anniversary of their Islamic Revolution from February 1 to 11, known as the Ten-Day Fajr (dawn) ceremonies.

February 1, 1979, was the date when Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini returned from exile in Paris to Tehran.
