TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani plans to pay official visits to Switzerland and Austria in coming weeks, the deputy head for communications and information at the president’s office, Parviz Esmaeili, said.

Heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation, Rouhani is slated to leave Tehran for Bern at the official invitation of his Swiss counterpart, Alain Berset, Esmaeili said on Monday.

During his two-day trip to Switzerland, the president will hold talks with Berset on the bilateral relations between the two countries and sign a number of cooperation agreements in various political, economic and cultural fields, he added.

Rouhani will also attend a meeting with Iranian expatriates in the Central European country, Esmaeili said.

He went on to say that the Iranian chief executive will leave Bern for the Austrian capital of Vienna at the official invitation of the county’s president.

The visits would come as Iran and the remaining parties to the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), have been in talks to save the accord following the US exit.

On May 8, the US president pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has underlined that any decision to keep the JCPOA running without the US should be conditional on “practical guarantees” from the Europeans.
