Iran’s Maghsoodloo Wins Gold at World Junior Chess Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Grandmaster Parham Maghsoodloo claimed the gold medal at the World Junior U-20 Chess Championship 2018.

The Iranian chess player became the champion with a round to spare.

He scored 9.5/10 and is two points clear of the field.

Maghsoodloo has gained 26.5 Elo points and has a rating performance of 2976. His live rating is now 2691.

This year’s edition sees a record-breaking number of participation, players from 65 different countries have come to Gebze, Turkey to compete for the most important title U-20.

Born in 2000, Maghsoodloo was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2016, the same year he was awarded the title of International Master.

He played in the Chess World Cup 2015, where he was defeated in the first round by Wesley So, and represented his nation at the 42nd Chess Olympiad in 2016. He won the Iranian Chess Championship in 2017.
