Top General Vows Punishment for Perpetrators of Terror Attack in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces criticized Pakistan’s failure to ensure security along the common border after a fatal attack on the IRGC forces in southeast Iran, pledging that the Iranian Armed Forces will take action to punish the terrorists behind the attack.

Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri issued a statement on Thursday, extending condolences over the martyrdom of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) forces in a terrorist attack in southeast Iran.

An explosives-laden car rammed into a bus carrying the IRGC personnel in the province of Sistan and Balouchestan on Wednesday evening, killing 27 IRGC members and injuring 13 others. The so-called Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing.

In his statement, Major General Baqeri said the barbaric crime has strengthened the Iranian military forces’ resolve to carry out missions to protect the borders and has also made the sponsors of terrorism and their criminal proxies in the region “a target of revolutionary wrath” of Iranians.

The general also noted that the terrorist attack highlights the responsibility of the Pakistani government and army, saying Tehran expects Islamabad to make serious and practical decisions to improve security along the common border and prevent the activities of Takfiri terrorist groups which are supported by the espionage services of certain regional and extra-regional countries.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Armed Forces will naturally practice their right to deal with the consequences of failure of neighbors in removing the security vacuums and border threats, and to punish the terrorists and the others threatening the country’s security, within the framework of international laws and regulations,” Major General Baqeri underscored.

On Thursday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said there are clear links between the terror attack and spy agencies of some countries in the region and beyond, urging the Iranian security organizations to seriously pursue the issue.
