TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Syrian army continued to advance against terrorists’ positions near the strategic town of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib province.

Syrian army troops shelled the positions of terrorist groups before beginning to advance beyond the strategically important town on Thursday.

Syrian army sources reported that capturing Khan Sheikhoun would open the way for recapturing other nearby towns such as Latmeen, Kafr Zita, Ltamenah.

According to a military source near the front-lines, the Syrian army forces captured the town of Madaya near the key city of Khan Sheikhoun after a fierce battle with the Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham terrorists.

On Thursday, the army troops stood just three kilometers away from the key town of Khan Sheikhun, after capturing five villages to its northwest overnight, said the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

SANA also reported on Wednesday that the Syrian army units regained control over the villages of Kafr Ain, Khirbet al-Murshed al-Mintar and Tal A’as in Idleb southern countryside after eliminating the latest gatherings of al-Nusra Front terrorists and its affiliated groups in the region.
