Iran’s Defense Ministry Ready to Assist Fisheries Sector

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Defense Ministry voiced readiness to satisfy the Fisheries Organization’s demands by supplying various maritime equipment.

Head of the Iranian Defense Ministry's Marine Industries Organization Rear Admiral Amir Rastegari expressed his organization’s readiness to meet the needs of local civilian sectors, including Iran Fisheries Organization.

Having the technical know-how to design and manufacture various maritime equipment, the Defense Ministry's Marine Industries Organization is ready to satisfy the Fisheries Organization’s demands for maritime devices, the admiral said in a meeting with the head of the organization.

He also gave an assurance that his organization would supply all necessary equipment under full warranty with the purpose of creating a sustainable business and cutting reliance on foreign suppliers when it comes to after-sale services.

In February, Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami and Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami signed a $500 million contract, under which the Defense Ministry undertook to manufacture 44 modern vessels for the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran.

Under the contract, the Defense Ministry will manufacture various types of vessels with civil application, including rescue and relief vessels, dredging ships, fireboats, marine pollution skimmers, as well as passenger boats for promoting the tourism industry.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.
