Iranian Oil Tanker Going to Turkey: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian oil tanker released recently by Gibraltar is heading to a port in Turkey, a report said.

The crew of the Adrian Darya 1, formerly known as the Grace 1, updated its listed destination in its Automatic Identification System to Mersin, Turkey, a port city in the country's south, AP reported.

The ship-tracking website MarineTraffic.com showed the Adrian Darya's position as just south of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea. At current speeds, it estimated that the Adrian Darya would reach Mersin in about a week.

On July 4, the British Royal Marines seized the giant Iranian oil tanker in Gibraltar for trying to take oil to Syria allegedly in violation of EU sanctions.

Tehran maintained that the supertanker was not bound for Syria and its seizure took place at the behest of the US.
