EU Has Taken No Major Step on JCPOA: Iran’s Larijani
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani criticized European countries’ failure to meet their obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and said Europe has not taken any substantial step in this regard.
Speaking at a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic in Belgrade on Tuesday, Larijani pointed to the US administration’s withdrawal from the JCPOA and its moves against Iran and said Washington bullies on various issues and the Islamic Republic reacts.
Meanwhile, the EU “has not taken a fundamental step regarding the nuclear agreement,” the parliament speaker deplored.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani stressed the need to boost economic relations between Iran and Serbia in various areas
The Serbian premier, for her part, expressed Belgrade’s willingness to boost relations with Tehran in all areas.
She also pointed to the US sanctions against Iran and said her country has experienced such economic sanctions and will, therefore, do whatever it can to help the Islamic Republic.
In May 2018, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA.
Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the JCPOA after the US withdrawal, but the three EU parties to the deal (France, Britain, and Germany) have failed to ensure Iran’s economic interests.
The EU’s inaction forced Tehran to stop honoring certain commitments to the nuclear deal, including a rise in the stockpile of enriched uranium.
Iran maintains that the new measures are not designed to harm the JCPOA but to save the accord by creating a balance in the commitments.
