Iran Comes 3rd at World Soccer Beach Games

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran beach soccer football team won the bronze medal after defeating Italy in the third-place playoff of the Association of National Olympic (ANOC) Committees World Beach Games on Wednesday.

Iran and Italy drew 5-5 at the end of three periods. The two teams went to extra time but neither team scored a goal.

Team Melli won the match after defeating Italy 3-1 in penalties.

Brazil claimed the title after thrashing Russia 9-3 in the final match.

A total of 16 beach soccer teams, divided into four groups of four teams, competed in the World Beach Games.

More than 1230 athletes from 97 countries compete at the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games in Doha on October 12-17.
