Dozens Arrested As Protesters Continue Clashes with Seattle Police (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Protesters and federal officers continue to clash in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.

At least 47 demonstrators were arrested during demonstrations against police violence and the presence of federal agents in Seattle on Saturday. The protest led to violent clashes between protesters and police.

Police had declared the protest a riot and stated that rocks, bottles and explosives were being thrown towards officers. In footage filmed during Saturday's protest, police can be seen violently detaining and pepper spraying the protesters.

People have been protesting there for police reform since the death of George Floyd.

The mayor of Seattle called on Congress to pass a law keeping unwanted federal agents out of the city.

On July 22, US President Donald Trump announced a surge of federal law enforcement into cities run by Democrats, including Seattle, as part of his "law and order" campaign.

Massive anti-police brutality and anti-racism protests have been taking place all across the US and abroad since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis on May 25.
