Police Chokehold Victim’s Mother Lead Rally in New Brunswick (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner who was killed at the hands of police six years ago has led a Black Lives Matter protest outside the City Hall in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on Sunday.

The protesters initially marched through New Brunswick, holding placards and chanting slogans, before reaching the City Hall, where several activists — including Gwen Carr — took turns to address the crowd.

Eric Garner died on July 17, 2014 after a police officer put him in a chokehold as multiple NYPD officers tried to detain him on charges of selling loose cigarettes. Garner was unarmed at the time of his death.

Along with George Floyd, Philando Castile, Freddie Gray, Breonna Taylor, Michael Brown, and Tamir Rice, Eric Garner has become one of the many names evoked in protests against police brutality across the US and around the world.
