Iran Eyes Stronger Trade Ties with Turkey

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian president’s Chief of Staff voiced Tehran’s willingness to expand economic relations with neighboring Turkey by removing the obstacles to bilateral trade.

In a telephone conversation with Turkey's new Finance Minister Lutfi Elvan on Thursday, Mahmoud Vaezi hailed the friendly ties and called for the enhancement of economic interaction between Tehran and Ankara.

The Iranian official also congratulated Elvan on taking office, expressing hope that Tehran-Ankara collaboration would continue to grow during his term.

"By tapping into the new international conditions and removing the obstacles to business cooperation between countries, the two states can further deepen their ties," Vaezi added, according to the government’s official website.

Considering the effective role of the Iranian and Turkish private sectors in enhancing business ties, it is necessary for both neighbors to further support investment by the private sector, the Iranian official added.

Vaezi also highlighted the great role played by Iran-Turkey Joint Economic Commissions in improving business relations, saying the ties between Tehran and Ankara should become a model for the regional neighbors and friends.

The Turkish minister, for his part, described Iran as a friend and neighbor of Turkey, hailing the developing relations between the two sides.

He also said he would do his best to further deepen business ties with Iran considering the change in the international conditions.

Elvan also expressed hope that once the coronavirus outbreak is over, Iran and Turkey would be able to quickly restore their transit exchanges, both through land and air, so as to tap into all existing capacities.
