COVID-19 Updates in Iran: Over 6,200 New Cases Detected

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iran exceeded 1,218,000 after the detection of over 6,200 new patients in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry announced on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press conference, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said 6,272 new COVID-19 cases were identified in the country in the past 24 hours.

She also put the death toll from the pandemic in Iran at 55,095, saying 149 patients have died since yesterday.

At least 978,714 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across the country, the spokeswoman noted.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,087 patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

More than 7,566,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far, she said.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 82 million and the death toll is about to hit 1.8 million.
