Zarif: Gen. Soleimani’s Memory Shines On As Trump, Pompeo Relegated to History’s Dustbin

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Donald Trump, who ordered the assassination of Iranian commander Lt. General Soleimani, has left office in disgrace but the memory of the martyred commander lives on.

"Trump, Pompeo and colleagues are relegated to the dustbin of history in disgrace,” Zarif said in a post on his Twitter account on Wednesday, as Trump’s presidency ended and Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.

“But the memories of martyred Major General Soleimani, the 1000s murdered, maimed and starved of food, meds by Trump's state terrorism and crimes against humanity will shine on,” the Iranian top diplomat added.

“Perhaps new folks in DC have learned,” he further said in the tweet.

General Soleimani was the former commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). He was assassinated by a US strike on January 3, 2020, when he was on an official visit to the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Hitting his convoy, the barbaric assault also led to the martyrdom of many others, including Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) or Hashd al-Sha’abi anti-terror force.

Recently, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei vowed that those behind the assassination of the top commander will definitely face revenge whenever possible.
