Ex-Iran, Persepolis Defender Ansarian Dies

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ali Ansarian, former defender of Iran national football team and Persepolis, died at the age of 43 on Wednesday.

He died due to COVID-19 in Tehran’s Farhikhtegan Hospital.

Ansarian played for Iranian football club Persepolis for seven years. He also was a member of Persepolis’ archrival Esteghlal in 2006-07 season.

Ansarian also won six caps for Iran national football team.

Last week, Ansarian’s teammate Mehrdad Minavand died at the age of 45 due to COVID-19 in Tehran.

Spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education Sima Sadat Lari said on Wednesday that another 79 people have lost their lives due to the deadly virus during the past 24 hours in Iran.

According to her report, the number of the total death toll reached 58,189.

Lari said that 6,870 new cases infected with the COVID-19 were found over the past 24 hours, some 701 of whom have been hospitalized.

She added that 1,438,286 Iranians have totally been confirmed infected, some 1,229,391 of whom have either recovered or been discharged from hospitals.

Since its outbreak, the COVID-19 pandemic has infected about 104 million people across the world, from whom over 2,200,000 people have lost their lives.
