Coronavirus in Iran: Some 7,000 New Cases Detected

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of Iranians tested positive for the coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours has stood at 6,983, the Health Ministry said.

The Health Ministry’s spokeswoman announced at a press conference on Saturday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has exceeded 1,459,000 following the detection of 9,983 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new patients detected in the past 24 hours, only 498 have been admitted to the hospital, Sima Sadat Lari added.

At least 1,247,374 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman added.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 58,412, saying the disease has taken the lives of 76 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,802 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 9,612,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 106 million and the death toll has exceeded 2.3 million.
