Playing in Europe A Dream Come True: Taremi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi says his dream has now become a reality to play in Europe.

Taremi joined Portuguese top-flight club Rio Ave in 2019 and signed a contract with Portugal’s giant Porto a year later after his eye-catching performance with the Rioavistas.

In an interview with O Jogo, Taremi said his dream had been playing in Europe and he is now happy to play in Porto.

“I had received offers from Benfica and Sporting but opted to join Porto. Porto is more famous than Benfica in Iran and is a strong team,” Taremi said.

“The football fans asked me to join Porto and I thought it would be a better transfer. Porto defends its title and plays in UEFA Champions League,” he added.

The 28-year-old says when he was playing in Qatari club Al Gharafa, he was dreaming of one day playing in Europe.

“I think to join Porto was a good decision and we can return to top of the league in the future,” Taremi concluded.
