Blockade on Iran Triggered after Outstanding Economic Growth: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of Iran Hassan Rouhani said his administration’s great economic performance, the success to curb inflation, and a two-digit economic growth made the enemies launch an economic war on Tehran.

In remarks in commemoration of the 42nd anniversary of victory of the Islamic Revolution on Wednesday, President Rouhani said his administration’s great economic performance frightened the enemies and made Israel and the regional reactionary regimes join the previous US president in imposing an economic blockade on Iran.

He also noted that the Iranian people’s resistance and the government’s prudence during the three-year US economic war on Iran crushed former American president Donald Trump.

The people of the world are beholden to the Iranian nation for defeating Trump, he added, noting, “As we emerged victorious during the eight-year (Iraqi) imposed war, we win this three-year economic war, too.”

“God bestowed triumph upon us whenever we stood together and joined hands,” the government’s website quoted him as saying.

“The era of maximum sanctions and economic war has come to an end,” the president stressed.

In remarks in November 2020, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called on the Iranian officials to concentrate efforts on thwarting and overcoming the sanctions instead of seeking their removal, pointing to the unsuccessful outcome of years of negotiations for lifting the sanctions.
