Taremi, Zahedi Nominated for AFC International Player of Week

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian forwards Mehdi Taremi and Shahab Zahedi were shortlisted for the AFC International Player of the Week.

Taremi took his dream run to the UEFA Champions League, scoring an early goal against Juventus, where Porto defeated the Italian giant 2-1.

Mehdi Taremi (FC Porto, Iran)
90 minutes, 1 goal, 3 interceptions (2-1 v Juventus)
90 minutes,1 assist, 2 shot assists, 94% pass accuracy (2-1 v Maritimo)

It seems like every week is a new high watermark for Taremi at the moment. He took just 61 seconds to score against Juventus in the UCL Round of 16 last Wednesday, becoming the fifth Iranian player to score in the competition, then set up Porto’s opener in its narrow league win on Monday.

Shahab Zahedi (Zorya Luhansk, Iran)
90 minutes, 1 goal, 68% pass accuracy (1-0 v FC Mariupol)

A starting debut to remember for Zahedi, who showed skill, poise and resilience to slam home his first goal in Zorya colours. The Iranian striker may be new to Zorya, but he is now a well-known figure in Ukraine. No one has scored more goals than him in the league this season.

The Iranian duo will vie with Takuma Asano (Partizan Belgrade, Japan), Jiloan Hamad (HNK Gorica, Iraq), Parvizjon Umarboev (Lokomotiv Plovdiv, Tajikistan), Lee Kang-in (Valencia, Korea Republic), Eldor Shomurodov (Genoa CFC, Uzbekistan), Daichi Kamada (Eintracht Frankfurt, Japan) and Takumi Minamino (Southampton, Japan) to be named as the AFC International Player of the Week.
