MP Bashes French Envoy for Meddling in Iran Affairs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian lawmaker lashed out at the ambassador of France for interference in Iran’s internal affairs and comments about the purpose of the JCPOA-related negotiations.

Speaking at a parliamentary session on Sunday, member of the Iranian Parliament’s presiding board, Alireza Salimi, warned the French ambassador in Tehran not to interfere in the domestic affairs of Iran.

“The ambassador of France has said ‘we would push the Vienna and the JCPOA negotiations to results so that we’d be able to interfere in Iran’s elections’. Such interventionist comments do not match Mr. ambassador,” the lawmaker added.

The MP further called on the team of Iranian negotiators involved in the JCPOA Joint Commission meeting in Vienna not to keep the lawmakers in the dark or deal with the subjects as a secret.

The JCPOA Joint Commission earlier this week held a four-day round of talks in the Austrian city of Vienna, with representatives of Iran, Russia, China, France and the UK in attendance.

The US has been absent from the Commission and its discussions since 2018, when former American president Donald Trump took Washington out of the JCPOA and returned the sanctions that the nuclear accord had lifted.
