Three Iranians Shortlisted for AFC Int’l Player of Week

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian players Mehdi Taremi, Saeid Ezatolahi and Amir Abedzadeh have been shortlisted for the AFC International Player of the Week.

Taremi continued his brilliant debut season for Porto and Ezatolahi and Abedzadeh also stole the show in Vejle Boldklub and Maritimo, respectively.

Mehdi Taremi (FC Porto, Iran)
86 minutes, 1 shot assist (1-1 v Benfica)
69 minutes, 2 goals, 2 assists, 83% pass accuracy (5-1 v Farense)

FC Porto’s title hopes are now officially dashed, but seemingly nothing can stop Mehdi Taremi from excelling for the Portuguese giant.

He was directly involved in four goals in Monday night’s thrashing of Farense, taking his personal scoring tally to 22 in all competitions this season, one more than his 21 for Rio Ave in 2019-20.

Saeid Ezatolahi (Vejle Boldklub, Iran)
90 minutes, 1 goal, 77% pass accuracy, 5 interceptions (4-2 v SønderjyskE)

A thumping goal in brilliant Sunday sunshine in front of thousands of delighted fans. They don’t call football the beautiful game for nothing.

Ezatolahi’s 25-yard strike not only put smiles on the faces of Vejle's fans, it capped a terrific performance and put the Danish side out of relegation danger with three games remaining.

Amir Abedzadeh (Maritimo, Iran)
90 minutes, 4 saves (0-1 v Gil Vicente)
90 minutes, 6 saves, 5 crosses claimed (1-1 v Pacos de Ferreira)

Iranian goalkeeper Abedzadeh is finishing his season in excellent form, playing a huge role in his side’s 1-1 draw against Pacos De Ferreira with a string of excellent saves.

Abedzadeh has conceded just twice in his last five games, making 20 saves in the process.
