100% of Sanctions Must Be Lifted: Iranian Parliament

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s lawmakers ruled out any categorization of the sanctions whose termination is being discussed in the JCPOA talks in Vienna, stressing that nothing will change if each and every one of the sanctions on Iran are not lifted in a verifiable and irreversible manner.

In a statement released on Tuesday about the JCPOA negotiations, 200 Iranian parliamentarians emphasized that the main condition for Tehran’s return to the JCPOA commitments is the “real termination of all sanctions and its detailed verification.”

The criterion for evaluating the results of the Vienna talks is the Iranian nation’s economic benefits from the 2015 nuclear deal, the statement noted, adding, “The Parliament will not approve of any separation or categorization of the sanctions that would result in the maintenance of part of the economic pressures against the Iranian people and prevention of or disruption to the economic benefits.”

The lawmakers made it clear that the US sanctions must be terminated fully, verifiably and irreversibly, saying a failure to lift 100 percent of the sanctions would mean that no sanction has been removed.

The acceptance of a number of sanctions remaining in place would be tantamount to acceptance of their legitimacy, the MPs warned.

Earlier this month, the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission warned that if the negotiating parties fail to make a breakthrough in the talks for the revival of the JCPOA until May 24, the Iranian Parliament’s law on 'Strategic Action’ will take affect and the IAEA will have no access to the data recorded at the country’s nuclear sites.
