Coronavirus Deaths in Iran Exceed 124,000

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran has surpassed 124,000, the Health Ministry said.

The figures released by the ministry on Sunday show that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 199 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 124,075.

According to the statistics, 11,396 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 1,482 of them hospitalized.

More than 5.32 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 5,784,800 who have contracted the disease, the ministry added.

Some 4,760 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The ministry also said that more than 48.47 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while over 24.16 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 241 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.91 million.
