Italian Firm Says Ready to Invest in Iran’s Hydropower Industry

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Brulli Energia, a major Italian energy company, has voiced its willingness to invest in Iran’s hydropower development projects, the official website of the Iranian Energy Ministry said.

A four-member delegation from the private Italian firm has recently met with the managers of Iran Water and Power Resources Development Company (IWPCO) and made visits to a number of the country’s hydroelectric plants and dams, according to the ministry.

The IWPCO has offered a range of its development projects to Brulli Energia to study and examine for investment.

In recent years, Iran has put greater emphasis on participation of domestic and foreign investors in its electricity generation sector, with projects underway to add 40,000 MWh more capacity to the national grid.

After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the construction of hydroelectric power plants in Iran became a popular private and public venture.

The country's electricity industry ranks 14th in the world and first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation.
