Sheikh Nimr’s Execution Part of Major Conspiracy against Islam: Pakistani Figure

ISLAMABAD (Tasnim) – A prominent Muslim figure in Pakistan warned against an extensive conspiracy against the Islamic world, saying that the Saudi regime’s move to execute prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr was the beginning of the plot.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Syed Ali Abid Bukhari, who is a member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP), pointed to the Al Saud’s recent moves, saying that his party condemns the killing of the Shiite cleric and 46 others in Saudi Arabia.

The martyrdom of Sheikh Nimr was the beginning of a major conspiracy against the Muslim world, the Sunni cleric stated.

He further emphasized that Sheikh Nimr was killed at the request of some foreign countries.

Bukhari called on the Pakistani government to play a positive role in thwarting the scheme against the Islamic world.

Saudi Arabia’s execution of 47 prisoners, including Sheikh Nimr, drew global condemnation on January 2.

Sheikh Nimr had been detained in July 2012 on charges of delivering anti-regime speeches and defending political prisoners.
