Activists, Muslim Scholars Pay Tribute to Sheikh Nimr in London

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A special memorial event was held in the British capital marking the 40th day since the execution of prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr by Saudi Arabia.

Organized by Ahlulbayt Islamic Mission (AIM) in association with the Free Sheikh Nimr Campaign, the event was held at the venue of the Islamic Center of England on Saturday.

Large groups of people, including Islamic figures, Mulim scholars and activists attended the event.

Sheikh Mohammad Ali Shomali, Islamic Center of England; Seyed Mohammed al-Mousavi, World Ahlulbayt Islamic League; Sheikh Musharaf Husseini, Justice for Peace; Seyed Ali Reza Rizvi, Markaz Ahlulubayt al-Islami; Massoud Shajdareh, Islamic Human Rights Commission; Nabil Shabbir, Councillor Peterborough; Alexander Khaleeli, lecturer at the Islamic College; Zenta Tahir, Free Sheikh Nimr Campaign; Hani Awardi, event chairman, and Zafar Abbas, an activist and researcher made speeches at the ceremony.

The Saudi regime executed Sheikh Nimr on January 2, defying international calls to release him. The execution sparked international condemnations and angry protests in many countries.
