Syrian Troops Seize Key Village in Quneitra
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian forces and their allies stepped up their attack against Takfiri militants in Quneitra on Sunday, managing to seize a village in the southwestern province, a report said.
The village of Mashara, about 11 km (7 miles), from the frontier with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights was captured after heavy shelling, Syrian state TV reported.
The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) also confirmed the news, adding that the Arab country’s forces also shelled the town of al-Haara in neighboring Daraa province.
On July 12, the Syrian army raised the national flag over the southern city of Daraa as a major counter-terrorism operation neared an end with foreign-backed militants leaving the region in negotiated surrender deals.
Daraa city was the birthplace of the sedition that began in March 2011 before morphing into a foreign-backed militancy that continues to this day.
Since June 19, the Syrian army has been conducting the operation in Daraa, which borders Jordan and the Israeli-occupied side of Syria’s Golan Heights.
