Commander: IRGC Standing Firm against Foreigners in Persian Gulf

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri said his forces are vigorously protecting the Persian Gulf waters against foreign forces.

In comments in Iran’s southern port city of Mahshahr on Saturday, Rear Admiral Tangsiri said the IRGC naval forces are fully prepared to protect Iran’s territorial waters.

“We are standing firm against the forces of the global arrogance and trans-regional countries that have been deployed to the Persian Gulf,” he underlined.

The general added that the IRGC Navy employs homegrown equipment to safeguard the Islamic Republic’s independence and dignity in the face of enemies.

In remarks in 2016, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined that security of the Persian Gulf region comes within the purview of the regional countries alone, and dismissed the US claim of seeking security in the region.

“The Persian Gulf security relates to the countries of the region which have common interests, and not to the US. So, security of the Persian Gulf region should be provided by the countries of this region itself,” the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei has also called for the enhancement of the Iranian naval forces’ presence in international waters and expanding the Navy’s power in balance with the merit of the Islamic Establishment.
