Iran Forms Cultural Heritage Ministry

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) changed into a ministry, and the head of the organization became the caretaker of the new ministry.

In a decree on Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani appointed ICHTO chief, Ali Asghar Mounesan, as the caretaker of the newly-formed Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism.

Mounesan is a vice president who took the helm at the ICHTO in August 2017.

On August 6, spokesman for Iran’s Guardian Council, Abbasali Kadkhodaei, said the council has ratified a plan for the formation of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism.

On August 17, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani sent a letter to Rouhani, declaring the law on the formation of the new ministry.

Established in 1985, the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Iran had been working as an educational and research institution under the presidential office’s supervision.
