Coronavirus Infection, Mortality Rates Falling in Majority of Iran’s Provinces: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s deputy health minister said the novel coronavirus infection rate and the number of deaths have been on the decline in most of the country’s provinces.

In comments at a meeting in the central city of Isfahan on Monday, Iraj Harirchi said the majority of provinces in Iran have seen a downward trend in the COVID-19 cases and the deaths due to the infection.

He also noted that the infection rate in six provinces has been following a gradually growing trend, while it has been flatlining in a number of other provinces, such as in Isfahan.

Harirchi pointed to three main strategies the Health Ministry has adopted to contain the coronavirus pandemic, saying they include smart social distancing, detection of asymptomatic people who are infected and may spread the disease, and detection and segregation of people who have had contact with the coronavirus patients or carriers of the disease.

The Health Ministry announced on Sunday that nearly 44,000 coronavirus patients in Iran have fully recovered from the disease.

The Iranian health personnel have carried out more than 263,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests in the country.
