Washington Informed Israel before Announcing Plan to Return to JCPOA: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Israeli regime has been informed by the Biden administration in advance that the US planned to announce on Thursday it was ready to talk to Iran about returning to the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Citing a source familiar with the matter, Reuters reported that the Biden’s aides have wanted to avoid blindsiding the regime of Israel, over the US plans, which included telling the UN Security Council the new administration was rescinding former President Donald Trump’s assertion that all UN sanctions had been re-imposed on Iran in September.

But President Joe Biden did not directly inform Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the shift in U.S./Iran policy when they spoke for the first time on Wednesday, the source said.

Joe Biden has just expressed an alleged interest in returning the US to the JCPOA without taking any action that could mirror the announcement or adopting any measure towards relieving the sanctions.

Netanyahu has made clear he strongly opposes a US return to the nuclear deal with Iran.

However, Iran also said it would only retrace its nuclear countermeasures if all the oppressive sanctions against the country were lifted in a way that could be verifiable by Tehran.
