Iran Eager to Boost Economic Ties with Croatia: Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Zagreb expressed the country’s willingness to broaden economic cooperation with Croatia considering the two nations’ close political and cultural relations.

Iranian envoy to Zagreb Parviz Esmaeili held a meeting with the chairman of Croatia-Iran parliamentary friendship group at the Croatian parliament, Zlatko Hasanbegovic, on Thursday.

Highlighting the friendly and deep-rooted political and cultural ties between Iran and Croatia, the ambassador said there are ample opportunities for the promotion of economic exchanges between the two countries.

The Iranian state-run and private sectors are eager to cooperate with the Croatian companies and economic activists, Esmaeili added.

For his part, the Croatian lawmaker praised Iran as the first non-European state that recognized Croatia after declaration of its independence in 1991, saying the Islamic Republic has been a reliable friend of the Republic of Croatia.

In a conversation in April 2020, the presidents of Iran and Croatia called for the exchange of experiences and mutual cooperation in the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The two presidents also expressed solidarity with the people of the two countries in the difficult conditions of the battle with the coronavirus, and called for sharing experiences and capabilities to contain the disease.
