Parliament Speaker Demands Swift Release of Iran’s Assets in S. Korea

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf called on South Korea to come up with an immediate and practical solution to unfreeze the Iranian currency resources held in the East Asian country.

In a meeting with South Korean Prime Minister Chung Sye-Kyun in Tehran on Monday, Qalibaf said the image of South Korea among the Iranian people and merchants has been tarnished since 2018 following Seoul’s unacceptable behavior in following the US sanctions.

Iran expects the South Korean government to find immediate and practical solutions to release the frozen assets and blocked resources, the Parliament speaker added.

Qalibaf also expressed Iran’s readiness to promote parliamentary cooperation with South Korea, saying it would enhance the bilateral relations in other fields.

For his part, the South Korean premier said Seoul is trying to fix the problems in the relations with Tehran that have arisen since 2018.

Chung also noted that he is accompanied by a number of Korean political and economic authorities in the visit to Iran to weigh plans for the settlement of problems.

Chung Sye-Kyun arrived in Tehran on Sunday evening to become the first South Korean prime minister to visit Iran in more than four decades.
