Iran Voices Concern about Recent Terror Attacks in Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman expressed deep concern about the terrorist attacks, explosions and moves aimed at fomenting crises that have occurred in Iraq over the past days, reaffirming Iran’s support for the neighboring country’s stability and territorial integrity.

In a statement released on Friday, Saeed Khatibzadeh said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the security, stability and territorial integrity of Iraq, and strongly rejects any move that threatens these inviolable principles.”

“Iraq is moving towards domestic development and playing an active and constructive role in the region but certain individuals seek to prevent the realization of such goals in Iraq by carrying out acts of terrorism, fueling insecurity, and creating crisis,” he deplored.

Tehran believes that Baghdad can overcome all these difficulties considering the capacities it has, the spokesman added, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website.

“We regard Iraq’s security and stability as an inseparable part of the security and stability of Iran and the region, and will spare no effort to support the friendly and brotherly country of Iraq,” he noted.

At least four people were killed and 17 others wounded in a car bomb attack in the Sadr City neighborhood of Baghdad on Thursday.

On Wednesday, separate acts of violence linked to regional rivalries saw an explosives-laden drone target US forces at Erbil airport in northern Iraq and a separate rocket attack kill a Turkish soldier at a military base nearby.
