Iran Voices Solidarity with India As Its COVID Cases Spiral

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed his solidarity with India which has reported record numbers of coronavirus cases and deaths amid an alarming shortage of medical oxygen and hospital beds following a brutal wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

“Iran stands in solidarity with India as she braves one of worst episodes of disastrous pandemic, which has become humanity's common pain,” Zarif said in a post on his Twitter account on Saturday night.

“Our condolences to bereaved families and prayers for speedy recovery of all afflicted,” the top Iranian diplomat added.

Zarif also emphasized that global cooperation is imperative to end such a “global tragedy”.

The daily coronavirus death toll and number of infections in India have passed new world records in the grip of a rampaging second wave of the pandemic.

Queues of COVID-19 patients and their fearful relatives were building up outside hospitals in big cities across India, which has reported nearly one million new cases in three days.

Another 2,624 deaths, a new daily record, were reported in 24 hours, taking the official toll to nearly 190,000 since the pandemic started.
