Iran’s Davoudi Claims Gold at Asian Weightlifting C’ships

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Ali Davoudi claimed the super-heavyweight title on the final day of the 2020 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Sunday.

Davoudi underlined his status as Iran’s top contender in Tokyo.

Davoudi, 22, who has won Youth and Junior world titles, missed his final attempt at 245kg but he made 196-239-435 to see off the challenge of Man Asaad from Syria (195-238-433) and Japan’s Eishiro Murakami on 415kg.

Iran’s Kianoush Rostami in 89kg and Rasoul Motamedi in 109kg had previously claimed the gold medals in the competition.

Sohrab Moradi had also seized a silver in 96kg.
