Envoy Reaffirms Iran’s Backing for Afghan Peace Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Kabul reaffirmed that the Islamic Republic will continue to support the process of negotiations for peace in Afghanistan.

At a meeting in Kabul, Iranian envoy Bahador Aminian and Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Mirwais Nab talked about the latest developments in the course of peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban as well as a trilateral meeting of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey.

In the get-together, the ambassador assured Afghanistan of Tehran’s continued cooperation with Kabul in various fields and its support for the Afghan peace negotiations.

Aminian also warned that the continuation of violence, targeted killings and massacre of ordinary people will harm peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.

The envoy and the deputy foreign minister also weighed plans for the promotion of political, economic and cultural cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan, and the next meeting of the Economic Cooperation Joint Commission.

Last week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expressed the country’s willingness to work with Pakistan in helping the peace process in neighboring Afghanistan at a meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Tehran.
