Spokesman Denies Report of Meeting between Iranian, US Officials in Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh dismissed rumors that Iranian officials have held a meeting with CIA Director William Burns in Baghdad.

Speaking to Tasnim on Tuesday, Khatibzadeh vehemently denied the rumors that Iranian officials and the director of the US Central Intelligence Agency have met in Iraq, slamming it as a report from yellow media.

Tasnim has learned that William Burns had left Baghdad several days before the team of Iranian officials led by Foreign Minister Zarif traveled to Iraq for an official visit.

The top Iranian diplomat arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday -when the CIA chief had left the Arab country- and held meetings with the Iraqi officials immediately, the reports and photos of which have been released.

In the meantime, a CIA spokesperson has told the Washington Examiner that reports of a meeting between US and Iranian officials in Baghdad are false and declined to comment on Burns' schedule.
