Match against Al-Shorta Will Determine our Fate: Majidi
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Esteghlal head coach Farhad Majidi says that the match against Al-Shorta is very important in their bid to reach the Round of 16.
The Iranian team is scheduled to meet Al-Shorta Friday night in Group C of the AFC Champions League.
Victory will take Esteghlal to 11 points but with Al-Duhail of Qatar playing Al Ahli Saudi FC in the group's later match, the Iran side will only know its fate hours after its tie against Al-Shorta with all three teams tied on eights points going into Matchday Six, setting the stage for an exciting finish to Group C.
“We played in a smart way in the previous match against Al-Ahli as we tried our best to preserve effort for match against Al-Duhail," revealed Majidi. "It will be a difficult contest because it will determine our fate in the competition.
“The previous results are now history for us and we are not also thinking of Al-Shorta's win against Al-Duhail. We will give our best and play with the same style that we have played the previous matches.
“We always aim to get the three points from any match that we play and we are playing with an attacking style, which reflects the culture of the club and what our fans look for.
“I want to thank the AFC and the Saudi Arabian FF for hosting the matches as well as Al-Ahli Saudi. Hopefully Saudi teams will play in Iran in the future so that we can share our hospitality with them,” Majidi concluded.
