Coronavirus in Iran: Over 2,700 Patients Hospitalized

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of coronavirus patients who have been admitted to the hospital across Iran over the past 24 hours was over 2,700, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said.

Sima Sadat Lari announced at a press conference on Sunday that the total number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has exceeded 2,534,800 after the detection of 18,698 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected in the past 24 hours, 2,711 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

At least 1,988,000 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman added.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 72,484, saying the disease has taken the lives of 394 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,443 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

She also said more that more than 16.1 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 956,000 people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 152 million and the death toll has exceeded 3.2 million.
