Coronavirus Cases in Iran Surpass 2.89 Million

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iran exceeded 2,893,000 on Saturday as the death toll and the cases admitted to the hospital have been on the decline in recent days.

Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Saturday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 2,893,200 after the detection of 7,107 new cases since yesterday.

She said the pandemic has claimed 173 lives over the past 24 hours, while the overall coronavirus death toll in Iran stands at 79,741.

More than 2,425,000 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, Sima Sadat Lari added.

Among those undergoing treatment at present, 4,296 are being kept in the Intensive Care Units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.

The spokeswoman also said more than 19.68 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 3.33 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 170 million and the death toll has exceeded 3.53 million.
