Natural Gas Availability in Iran Hits 95%: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted his administration’s performance in the energy industry, saying that natural gas has been supplied to 95 percent of the population across the country.

In comments on Thursday after inaugurating three major projects carried out by the National Iranian Gas Company, Rouhani said his administration’s success in raising the natural gas penetration rate in Iran to 95 percent may be unparalleled in the world.

He added that the outgoing administration has paid special attention to the rights of the Iranian nation by using the joint oil and gas fields.

The president said while the previous administrations needed to import gasoline, diesel and even natural gas in the wintertime, his administration has turned Iran into an exporter of gasoline and diesel.

Highlighting the administration’s special attention to the protection of the environment, Rouhani said 76% pf the gasoline consumed in Iran at present meet Euro-4 emission standards.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the president said that the sanctions against Iran could have been terminated by now without certain bureaucratic processes, such as parliamentary bureaucracy.

In January, the daily natural gas production and processing in Iran hit an all-time high of 840 million cubic meters (mcm), roughly more than half the amount of gas consumed in the entire Europe.

The NIGC, which is responsible for distribution and exports of natural gas in Iran, said in December 2020 that gas consumption had hit a record high of 740 mcm on the first day of winter season in the country.
