TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Akbar Komeijnai was appointed as the new governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), replacing Abdolnasser Hemmati who was laid off last month following his decision to run for president.

After a month of serving as the caretaker governor of the Central Bank, Komeijnai was officially appointed to the post of governor in a Wednesday meeting of the cabinet.

His predecessor, Hemmati, was dismissed on May 31 after he decided to run for president and focused his attention on the campaign for the June 18 election.
