Two Water Stations in Southwestern Syria Out of Service After Sabotage

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The water supply to at least 150 thousand people has been cut off leaving them without drinking water after a group of unknown persons sabotaged two water pumping stations in Daraa, according to the province’s Water Company.

The Syrian State News Agency SANA reported, citing Daraa Water Company Assistant Osama al-Qaderi saying that a group of unknown persons attacked the Tal al-Joumoa water pumping station that feeds Nawa city, destroying the station, seizing a 400kV transformer, as well as cutting copper cables, which led the station to be completely shut down.

He noted that the station pumps water at a rate of 250 cubic meters per hour to , and that the water company had procured an alternative transformer in preparation for resuming normal operations.

Al-Qaderi added that in another similar but separate incident, a group of unknown assailants attacked the al-Hara pumping station, depriving 30 thousand citizens of water.

Authorities in Daraa have begun investigations into the two incidents, according to a SANA correspondent in Daraa.
