COVID Death Toll in Iran Soars Past 89,000

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran exceeded 89,000 on Monday amid an increase in the number of new cases and the hospital admissions.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Monday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari put the death toll from the coronavirus in Iran at 89,122, saying the disease has taken the lives of 322 patients over the past 24 hours.

She also noted that at least 3,274,300 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across the country.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has surpassed 3,723,200 following the detection of 31,814 new cases since Sunday noon, the spokeswoman added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 4,982 patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 25.6 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 8.14 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 194 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.17 million.
