Advocaat Officially Appointed Iraq Football Coach

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraq Football Association announced the appointment of Dutchman Dick Advocaat as the head coach of the Iraq national team.

The 73-year-old, who replaces Srecko Katanec, returns to Asia for the third time as a national team head coach after previously managing United Arab Emirates in 2005 and Korea Republic in the 2006 FIFA World Cup Finals.

Advocaat boasts great experience, having coached several European national teams, including his native Netherlands, as well as Belgium, Russia and Serbia.

He also coached several clubs in the Netherlands, Scotland, Germany, England and Turkey and won titles with PSV Eindoven, Rangers and Zenit Saint Petersburg, the-afc reported.

Iraq is in Group A of the final round of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 along with Korea Republic, Iran, UAE, Syria and Lebanon.

Seeking to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Finals for a second time, Iraq opens its qualifying campaign against Korea Republic in Seoul on September 2.
