Spy Drone Brought Down near Syria’s Aleppo

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s air defense units brought down a spy drone in the countryside of the northwestern city of Aleppo.

Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network reported the development on Monday.

It specified the target as a “surveillance” UAV, and the exact whereabouts of the incident as the area lying to the south of Aleppo.

More details are yet to come about the precise circumstances surrounding the development.

The areas that lie around the city are under the control of various terrorist groups.

Since 2011, when the Arab country was swept by rampant foreign-backed violence, the Aleppo Province, of which the city is the capital, has featured significant presence by militant and terrorist outfits backed by neighboring Turkey.

The Turkish military itself has invaded the province on several occasions.

Turkey says the operations are aimed at pushing back against United States-backed Kurdish militants, whom it associates with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), an anti-Ankara terrorist group.

Washington, on the other hand, has never stopped arming and training the militants despite Ankara’s repeated warnings.
