Iran, India Weigh Plans to Settle Afghan Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign ministers of Iran and India discussed a range of issues, including the recent developments in Afghanistan.

In a telephone conversation on Wednesday, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar congratulated his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian on taking office.

The top Indian diplomat also stressed the need for New Delhi and Tehran to develop their ties, referring to the wide range of areas in which the two nations can work together such as the regional and transportation cooperation.

Jaishankar then invited the Iranian foreign minister to visit India for further negotiations.

Iran and India need to continue consultations on Afghanistan, the Indian minister underlined.

For his part, Amirabdollahian underscored the need to expand Iran-India relations in different economic fields and promote cooperation on the issue of the coronavirus vaccine.

The Iranian foreign minister also called for efforts to expedite the development of Chabahar Project and boost trade with India.

On the developments in Afghanistan, Amirabdollahian said Iran’s principled policy is to support the formation of an inclusive government in the country made up of all Afghan ethnic groups.

He also stressed that the international community, including the regional nations, must join hands to resolve the crisis in Afghanistan.
