Five Agreements, 30 Other Documents Signed at 21st SCO Event

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The leaders of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries have signed a joint declaration and a package of 30 documents in 21st meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO at the Dushanbe-hosted summit on Friday.

The leaders signed SCO Council of Heads of State decisions approving the 2021-2023 plan of joint advisory measures aimed at overcoming the negative social and economic impacts of the coronavirus epidemic, the improvement of mechanisms to combat security threats and challenge, and establishing the SCO "Green Belt."

Five agreements and memorandums, as well as a strategy paper, were also signed at the summit, Tass reported.

In addition, processes to provide SCO membership to Iran and dialogue partner status to Qatar, Egypt and Saudi Arabia were launched at the summit.

The SCO's anthem was for the first time played after the signing ceremony.

The SCO consists of India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. That said, Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia are observer states, while the Azerbaijan Republic, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka are dialogue partners.
