Iran’s Top General to Visit Russia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri will pay an official visit to Russia next week for talks on military cooperation between the two countries.

Heading a high-ranking military delegation, the senior Iranian general will travel to Moscow next week at the official invitation of Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoygu.

Major General Baqeri is going to hold talks with the Russian authorities about the promotion of military and defense cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, the fight against terrorism, and regional and international developments.

Iran and Russia have formed a strong alliance in recent years, with both supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s legitimate government against foreign-backed militancy.

In August, President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi described efforts to enhance and strengthen relations with Russia as a top priority in his administration’s foreign policy, assuring his Russian counterpart of Tehran’s serious resolve to finalize a comprehensive cooperation deal with Moscow.
